THESE GUYS ARE AWESOME!

Seriously, Acumen Renovations did an amazing job on my house. Cleanliness - Every night they would tidy up. Nothing was left in the yard and there was no debris from day to day. When they were finished, they left the yard and all work areas pristine. I have NEVER had a crew keep everything this tight. Quality - I have an older house that needed a lot of work. There were issues that they encountered and I was worried that the solution would be to just hide it under siding. That was never the case. They went above and beyond in fixing the problem patches on the house and making sure the job was done 100% right. Cost - Acumen was the best bang for my buck I could find. At Josh's suggestion I created bid sheet so that everyone was bidding on the same thing. There was no comparison! Professional - Josh came out and bid the house. He also gave me a lot of really great advice on the project that a lot of the time was probably detrimental to him increasing his bid price. The whole way I really felt like we were doing the RIGHT thing for the house. I never felt up sold or like we were doing it the cheap way. If you are looking for a company to do your house or business renovations, this is the one you are looking for.

TOP NOTCH

Josh and his team recently replaced six windows and our siding. They were timely, professional and displayed great workmanship. I would highly recommend them for your home projects. Unlike many others, Josh responded to calls and emails quickly. He went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. Top notch!

EXCELLENCE & PRIDE

I rarely provide a recommendation to a business or service provider. Excellence and pride in workmanship are virtues that are difficult to find these days. I found these virtues alive and well in my recent experience with Todd and the guys from Acumen Renovations. Todd was professional in every way. He came to our home several times to discuss plans and design details for our new pergola. On the day the pergola was built, he and his crew were very patient with me in determining just the right location for the pergola. His crew was courteous and professional and the quality of the workmanship was outstanding. If you are considering a project of any kind, I can't recommend Acumen Renovations enough.

Questions

Deck Cost FAQ

Straight answers on deck pricing, materials, permits, and timelines.

How much does it cost to build a deck?

Deck costs vary based on size, materials, and features. A typical 12x16 treated wood deck starts around $8,000-$12,000 including labor. Composite decks run $15,000-$25,000+. Use our calculator for an instant estimate tailored to your specs.

What is the cheapest deck material?

Pressure-treated pine is the most affordable decking material, typically costing $2-$4 per square foot for materials. Cedar is mid-range at $4-$8/sqft, while composite decking ranges from $8-$15/sqft but requires less maintenance over time.

How long does it take to build a deck?

A standard deck build takes 1-3 weeks depending on size and complexity. Simple ground-level decks can be completed in a few days, while larger elevated decks with stairs, railing, and pergolas may take 2-3 weeks.

Do I need a permit to build a deck?

Most municipalities require a building permit for decks over 30 inches above grade or larger than 200 square feet. In the Kansas City Metro area, Johnson County and surrounding areas require permits for most deck projects. Check with your local building department.

How accurate is the online deck estimate?

Our calculator uses IRC 2018 building code formulas to compute exact material quantities, structural requirements, and labor costs. Estimates are typically within 5-10% of final project cost. A site visit may adjust the estimate based on terrain and access conditions.
